As I look over current events, it amazes me how much our country has turned on success. Once this country celebrated success now it despises it. People who went above and beyond to achieve greatness were set as role models and examples. Now I see animosity towards successful people.
Let's take Mitt Romney as an example. (Currently I believe all 3 republican candidates are viable. I won't make my final decision until Texas votes.) there is a large group of people against Romney simply because they feel he's too rich. Of course our media promotes this thought. Why is being finically successful a bad quality in a president? I would think he would be less likely to make decisions for his own personal gain. As far as our economy goes, wouldn't we want someone who understands how to turn around large projects? I'm not writing this to promote Romney, just to prove a point about how irrational our hate for rich people has become.
What about the 99% group? They dislike Wall Street and the money they have. I for one want Wall Street to do well. How else am I going to fund my retirement? I'll never have a sustainable retirement income without investments. Am I supposed to rely on the government? They can't even balance a check book and are spiraling towards bankruptcy as I write this.
If some in our country had it their way, than no matter what anyone did or what they contributed to society, we would all have the same rewards. Where is my incentive to succeed? Why sacrifice if there is no reward? You might say because it's the right thing to do. However, we all know this only motivates a few people. What a shame it would be to put everything on the line, to sacrifice my time and invest my money in something while others do nothing, only to find no reward at the end.
With so many people hating rich people, I've never wanted to be so hated in my life.
P.S. Ever wonder why your friends don't seem to help you Succeed as much as you thought they would? Well, maybe it's because they want you to do better, just not better than them.
