Capital One Abuse II

Click her for part I

I went to speak Capital One today to speak about their privacy policy. I explained my concerns to the personal banker who first offered to assist me. She was not familiar with the paperwork I was referring too. So, I sent her a copy via email from my smart phone. They did find their standard paper they sent out and she conferred with two bank management personal. Basically, it was a surprise to them. I explained to them what the paper said exactly and what it meant. I received a bunch of I'm not sure what to say expressions. They eventually told me they had to send this out to all customers within 30 days of getting an account. Really? I have 7 accounts and this is the first one I've noticed. I also informed them this account is in my son's name and they were sharing a minor's personal information.

They suggested I call the number on the paper to help deal with it. After spending 40 hours a week on the phone in Customer Service, this is the last thing i wanted to do.

They called the number for me and handed me over to some Indian call center rep. I explained my concerns yet again. He told me he would remove my information sharing. After this was done, I asked him what portions he stopped the sharing off. He said all companies related to and not related to Capital One. I again pointed out on the paper that supposedly this was not possible. He then switched his story and told me he could only do the parts listed as such.

I again restarted my concern. He proceeded to tell me that it was due to information needed by the government to stop money laundering, security and such. I asked him how he thought "Joint Marketing" fits into money laundering or security. Realizing this was going anywhere with out escalating to a manager, I put this on hold for the moment to follow up later with better avenues of approach. Nothing worse than when a rep over the phone gives you a B.S. song and dance. At least, he could of made up something more believable and related to the topic at hand.

More to follow...
